There should be a policy on children between the ages of five to fourteen who want to travel alone without having an adult with them in the plane. This allows the parents to hire the airline to take their child through the entire process of traveling.

American Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Policy

An unaccompanied minor is a traveler below fifteen years of age who is flying alone on an American Airlines flight, or anyone of eighteen years of age and below when the flight was being taken. It is banned for all children of five years and below to undertake travel as UMs.

Requirements

• The unaccompanied minor forms need to be completed by the parents at the time of booking or at the time of check in.
• The UM service fee is $150 for each child traveling and $150 for each direction if multiple directions are traversed.
• Write down the child’s name and date of birth with address and at least one emergency phone number.
• Leave a child/s at the beginning/ending point of the journey from the UM check-in point.

Airline Service

• The UM will be accompanied by American Airlines staff from the departure gate to the arrival of the adult, who will come to pick them up.
• During connections, care workers will be alongside UM and provide supervision in corridors and lobbies.
• First, there is early boarding for kids as well as pre-boarding announcements.
• While in the flight, the flight attendants oversee the UMs.
