On Wednesday, September 25, Chandika Hathurusingha, the head coach of Bangladesh, dismissed concerns about Shakib al Hasan’s availability for the second Test against at Kanpur, which is slated to start on September 27.

Shakib’s availability became a talking point after a ball struck him off Jasprit Bumrah during his batting innings in the opening test match in Chennai. The left-handed batter only batted eight or ten balls in the nets before opting to leave, which fueled more rumors. His post-net session body language suggested that he was not at ease.

In the first Test, Shakib bowled 21 overs and took no wickets. After bowling 50 overs in the first innings, it was assumed that he was injured and was, therefore, brought into the attack.

“I have not heard anything about any complaints about Shakib. Hathurusingha informed reporters at Kanpur on Wednesday, “He is eligible for selection as I haven’t heard from my physio or anyone else.”

Hathurusingha said that despite Shakib’s recent bat trouble, he is not concerned about his form. Shakib made just 38 runs in three innings during the two-match series against Pakistan last month, and he only scored 32 and 25 in the first Test against India. We all know what a talented guy he is, so I’m sure he believes he can do even better,” the coach added.

Additionally, Hathurusingha emphasized that they need to be more unconcerned about the latest security risks. In response to calls from various right-wing parties to boycott the matches in protest of claimed recent attacks on Hindu communities in Bangladesh, security was stepped up ahead of the second Test in Kanpur. The Uttar Pradesh Police decided to outfit the teams with three levels of security: isolation, outer, and outermost cordons. Over a thousand law enforcement officers from various branches have been dispatched. “We are not concerned about the security. We have trust that the Indian Cricket Board is looking after it,” he stated.
